Who We Are
At Westside Presbyterian Church, we are a diverse group of individuals united by a shared vision of compassion, love, dignity, and justice for all people. Our community includes members of Westside Presbyterian Church, organizers from Fort Worth Community Collaborative, educators, students, parents from Westside Learning Collective, and many others who simply enjoy being together.
We believe in the power of community. We gather to share in both our joys and our challenges, trusting that we are loved and supported by the people around us. We believe that each person is beautiful as they are and has unique gifts to offer. Our space is one where people can come together to practice new ways of being, knowing they are safe, celebrated, and embraced for who they are.
We may not have it all together, but together, we have everything we need to help build a powerful, beloved community. We are realizing that much of what we’ve been taught isn’t true, and doesn’t help us build a compassionate and loving society. We’ve been taught to see ourselves as individuals, in competition for scarce resources, but we believe there is another way. Our society is built to reward a few, leaving many without what they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. We reject the shame that comes with needing help and instead believe the system that creates this imbalance is the true shame.
We are inspired by many things: the understanding that we are all connected, the practice of mutual aid, the power of loving-kindness, and the revolutionary teachings of Jesus. Some of us are Christians, some are not, but we move forward together with the belief that you do not have to believe to belong.
At Westside, we believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table. We come together with the intention of getting to know ourselves and one another, always remembering that each person has the right to be fully present. Together, we are building the world we want to see—a world that values connection, care, and community.
